We need to think (also) "out of the box" for change, be innovative and start revolutions. To ensure that we don't fail miserably, we need the right communication strategy. Otherwise, we may mix up our own courage and speed with that of the organization.

Anne M. Schüller wrote an inspiring summary of how this can work in the current issue of "managerseminare". She sheds light on the fact that every groundbreaking idea needs allies, why the "why" is so important and in which steps you can get from a raw idea to a sparkling diamond. Definitely worth reading!

My addition and summary: It simply requires empathetic, patient and ongoing communication. On all channels and in person.

My favorite sentence from the editorial for the new issue "Managerseminare" by Nicole Bußmann. Now is an interim period, she continues, in which the world and its buildings of thought between "old" and "new normal" can be adjusted.

At the beginning of this time belongs for me: #Analysis and #Reflection, what we want to have back from the old normal.

How much flexibility do we need in our working world? How important are encounters to us and how do we shape them? How do we manage contact and communication in the best possible way?

How does good #leadership go at a distance? Or: Is #continuing education in the old regular mode really the non plus ultra?

We should not simply fall back into old patterns out of convenience. #Change starts in the head. Contact me if you need to talk about this.

Communication can be the coach: "Communication Business Partner" is the name of the concept. In the May 2021 issue of pressesprecher magazine, Prof. Dr. Annika Schach and Thomas Lüdeke describe the role as follows: "In addition, they are advisors who enable departments to make better business decisions, for example, by explaining opportunities and risks derived from monitoring public opinion. I would be very grateful if the attitude behind the concept becomes more and more common in practice. My practical recommendation: communicators should contribute their view to every decision. Because it's not the decision that makes the impact, it only comes about through an exchange process with the recipient of the message.

That our science is capable of leap innovations has been proven, for example, with the MP3 format. The first Covid19 vaccine also came here. BioNTech, CureVac and Moderna also benefited from funding from a national competition held by the Drapa research agency, a U.S. government institution. We also have such an agency - the SPRIND - Federal Agency for Leap Innovations.

"Between basic research and finished product lies the valley of death" I read in a refreshing interview with its head Rafael Laguna in the FAS on May 30. For innovations that divide the world into a "before" and an "after", it takes a lot of money over a long time.

In my opinion, just as crucial: It takes management, administration and a culture that allows and even encourages failure as part of the innovation process. In Germany, we do everything we can to avoid failure. In doing so, we risk that nothing will move forward.

How do we get it right? Taking responsibility and starting with ourselves is a good first step. Not "would have", "could have", "should have" - do.

Frank Roselieb and his team from Krisennavigator published a survey of 63 crisis professionals from D-A-CH last Friday. One result: Only every fifth crisis manager has more budget and staff during the pandemic. Technical accidents top the list of crisis cases. Two out of three organizations have now appointed crisis managers.

II think this one is not good: compared to 2019, the use of external consultants in crisis teams has almost halved. Only 33 percent - but that's still one in three crisis teams - call on the content expertise of people like me.

If the organizations are now able to do the work themselves - because they are well prepared and have trained - then that is understandable. On the other hand, it is my experience that, especially in a crisis, an external view beyond one's own involvement is always a helpful mirror and thus catalyst for decisions. We don't even want to talk about the additional workload that comes along ad hoc.
